Elections 2005
This year has been surprisingly successful in terms of class elections for the male hostellites. We have shown that we still retain the ability to change mind frames and that people trust us for our candour. No one could have even thought of Waheed achieving even second place in the race for EPC yet he won against all expectations. Though margin of victory was not convincing yet his mere win is a pleasant surprise. I must say it took some doing to get votes from fence sitters (fawad thankyou for the term). Many factors can be attributed to this unexpected success. Firstly Waheed holds a good name in the class (wannabe TA). Secondly his campaign was well planned and worked out. Thirdly his opponents took him too easy. Fourthly he has silver shining in his scalp that makes him look experienced. Finally and most importantly I think we were honest and straight forward in our dealing. Allah came to our help.
Hussain was a indisputable winner right from the word go. This was no secret that whosoever stood against him would not bring home the bacon. He is still a popular guy in the class especially among the female lot. And I fancy if few guys might idealize him too (who knows). Though he has lost considerable hair on his scalp yet his popularity remains the same. He seems to be considering a big change in his life these days. The change is due hussain. I must say that his win can be attributed to special someone that I might refrain from telling you further about. Good for him.
Aaref badshah more commonly known to us as shehanshah has secured the post of sports representative. He is a talented guy who can make things work in the right order. I hope he works to this end in future as our representative. He can always make use of his passion for soccer and organize a match or two for the then final years.
Mujji a new entry to the hostel scene has always been a class favourite for his non-alligned attitude towards one perticular group of thought. He seems to be a handsomely mannered man. Hope he brings festivities our way. I must devote some lines to our favourite Butt. Although he could not secure a win yet he remains our near and dear friend. He can be fun to work with. Butt saab koi nahee shehbaz wapis aye ga.
Junaid pointed out something interesting to me the other day. We won the elections in first year. We 'oned' the election in final year. It shows nothing other than the fact that people still think that we are worth a try. or it means that after testing all others in the middle years they have come to the conclusion that we still are the ones who can make things happen (or I begged to bad!). Many fail to realize that we here tend to vote on merit and not on personal likes and dislikes. The misconception has always existed about the voting attitude of the male hostellites that they tend to herd together. Well all I can say is that we have always tried in our earnest to make some positive contribution to the class and thus brought and promoted those who we think posses the ability to take the task and complete it. Be it a male hostel candidate or otherwise.
One good thing about these elections was the fact that no serious rows surfaced during or after the event. Though there were small incidents of anger shooting here and there yet nothing worth mentioning. Well I guess now people are mature enough to realize that these things don't matter in the bigger picture. Still who think otherwise don't deserve a mention on this blog.
My congratulations to the winners of ambo and feelings for those who could not make it.

A really nice post...I'd just like to point out one thing "Still who think otherwise don't deserve a mention on this blog" should be either "still whoever thinks... or still those who think..."

Just thought it might help
