The Chamgadar
I have started working finally and my first rotation is the night float. Everyone else gets to go home while you take care of their patients. Today is my second night and thankfully not much is happening. The first night yesterday almost turned into a nightmare with a couple of patients getting real sick and me not doing what to do. There isn't a lot of back-up at night and I am almost on my own from midnight till six unless something really big happens when I can call an attending for help. I just hope things remain calm tonight and I can maintain my sanity. The biggest drawback of this rotation is a screwed up circadian rhythm. You get back home after eight in the morning and wake up at four PM. I also have Friday and Saturday nights off and I think I'll have to be up during the daytime to get some personal stuff done and that's gonna screw the sleep cycle even further. Khair its a good learning experience, a bit scary but when you hand over pateints back to the primary team, it feels good.
On the personal front things are settling now. I signed the lease for a one bed apartment earlier this week. Even though its completely empty with nothing except my air mattress and bags in there but at least I have a place of my own. It will fill up gradually. I don't intend to get a car anytime soon coz so far the transport scene has worked out well.
